$$5.74\ g$$ of a substance has density $$4.8 gcm^{-3}$$.Keeping significant figures in view, calculate its volume?

ANSWER

$$1.2\ cm^3$$

SOLUTION
Mass of substance  $$m = 5.74 \ g$$
Density of substance  $$\rho = 4.8 \ g/cm^3$$
So, volume of substance  $$V = \dfrac{m}{\rho}$$
$$\implies \ V = \dfrac{5.74}{4.8} = 1.196 \ cm^3$$
Since value of mass has 3 significant figures and density has 2 significant figures. Thus value of volume must also have only 2 significant figures.
$$\implies \ V = 1.2 \ cm^3$$
