# A student measures the thickness of a copper wire using standard instruments and reports it as 0.1 cm, 0.15 cm and  0.157 cm. The instruments used to find these measurements are _____, ______ and _____ respectively.

ordinary scale,vernier calipers, screw gauge

##### SOLUTION
Least count of the ordinary scale is 0.1 cm, that of vernier scale is 0.01 cm and that of screw gauge is 0.001 cm. This means ordinary scale, vernier callipers and screw gauge can give measurements up to 0.1 cm, 0.01 cm and 0.001 cm respectively. Thus 0.1 cm is taken with the help of ordinary scale, 0.15 cm is taken with the help of vernier callipers and 0.157 cm is taken using screw gauge.

Q1 Single Correct Medium
A liquid drop placed on a horizontal plane has a near spherical shape (slightly flattened due to gravity). Let $R$ be the radius of its largest horizontal section. A small disturbance causes the drop to vibrate with frequency $v$ about its equilibrium shape. By dimensional analysis the ratio $\dfrac { v }{ \sqrt { \dfrac { \sigma }{ \rho { R }^{ 3 } } } }$ can be (Here $\sigma$ is surface tension, $\rho$ is density, $g$ is acceleration due to gravity, and $k$ is an arbitrary dimensionless constant).
• A. $\dfrac{{ k\rho g{ R }^{ 2 } }}{{\sigma }}$
• B. $\dfrac{ k\rho { R }^{ 2 } }{ g\sigma }$
• C. $\dfrac{ k\rho { R }^{ 3 } }{ g\sigma }$
• D. $\dfrac{ k\rho }{ g\sigma }$
