SOLUTION
In the given figure,
$$3x+x+40^{0}=180^{0}$$
(Angles on one side of a straight line)
$$\Rightarrow 4x=180^{0}-40^{0}=140^{0}$$
$$\Rightarrow x=35^{0}$$
