The dimensions of impulse are


ANSWER

$$\left[ {M\;L\;{T^{ - 1}}} \right]$$


SOLUTION


$$Impulse (I) = Force \times Time$$                           . . . . (1)

Since, $$Force (F) = Mass \times Acceleration = M \times  [LT^{-2}]$$

$$\therefore$$ The  dimensional formula of force $$=[M^1L^1T^{-2}]$$                   . . . . (2)

On substituting equation (2) in equation (1) we get,

$$Impulse =[M^1L^1T^{-2}]\times [T^1]=[M^1L^1T^{-1}]$$

Therefore, the impulse is dimensionally represented as $$[M^1L^1T^{-1}]$$
