Two angles are making a linear pair. If one of them is one-third of the other, find the angles.


SOLUTION
Let one angle be $$y$$.
As we know, the linear pair consists of two angles.
$$\therefore 180^o-y$$
$$ACQ$$,
$$\Rightarrow y=\dfrac{1}{3}(180^o-y)$$
$$\Rightarrow 3y=180^o-y$$
$$\Rightarrow 3y=180^o$$
$$\Rightarrow y=\dfrac{180^o}{4}$$
$$\Rightarrow y=45^o$$
Therefore, one angle is $$45$$ degrees and other is $$135$$ degrees.
$$\Rightarrow 180^o-45^o=135^o$$
