Using dimensional analysis show that
(i) 1 J = $$10^7$$ erg
(ii) 1 N = $$10^5$$ dyne


SOLUTION
$$(i) \;\;\;\;\;1J = 1 \;kgm^2s^{-2} = 1000g \times (100cm)^2 \times s^{-2}$$
$$ = 10^7 \; gcm^2s^{-2}$$
$$= 10^7 erg$$

$$(ii) \;\;\;\;\;1N = 1 \;kgms^{-2} = 1000g \times (100cm) \times s^{-2}$$
$$ = 10^5\; gcms^{-2}$$
$$= 10^5 dyne$$
